Hey ladies, it’s Peter Lehrke here. I’m the biochemist behind MenoMe, and I’m here today to help guide you in understanding 40+. I’ll tell you why I was convinced to bring it to Australia and New Zealand. I read all the studies, listened to all the information and gave it to my wife to try 😀and I was sold.
How exactly does 40+ work?
You may already know menopause starts as your estrogen levels decline and this is technically known as perimenopause.
In an earlier piece – All About Estrogen and 40+ – Leigh talks about estrogen and how important it is. She also shares there how 40+ supports women with declining estrogen levels.
So how exactly does 40+ work? Especially as it doesn’t contain estrogen, so, therefore, works differently to hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and herbal remedies containing natural estrogens (phytoestrogens).
All-Natural & Completely Estrogen Free
Understanding 40+ doesn’t contain any of the estrogen compounds found in many herbal menopause treatments is key. These are things like coumestans, isoflavones, genistein, daidzein, biochanin A, and formononetin. They mimic estrogen, the female hormone in HRT drugs, and so elevate the risk of estrogenic driven diseases such as heart disease and breast cancer. Check out the Mayo Clinic article for more information on the pros and cons of HRT.
The Science-y Bit
In contrast to other products, studies show that 40+ doesn’t bind to estrogen receptors alpha and beta or proliferate MCF-7 cells. Additionally, it doesn’t affect FSH/E2, uterus weight, Body Mass Index (BMI) and body weight.
I’ll lose the science language for a moment(!) In simple terms, this means 40+ is a safe alternative for women in menopause. Health Canada recognised this, approving it for sale without the need for ANY warnings on the label. This is extremely rare and not something that would be done for estrogen stimulating products.
But I haven’t answered the question – without estrogen, how does 40+work?
The Lowdown
I have to get a bit technical to explain this I’m afraid, but here goes…
The current scientific evidence suggests that the mechanism of action is related to a selective estrogen modulating receptor (SERM). This induces an enzyme called estrogen-specific alkaline phosphatase (ALP) without affecting the levels of estradiol2 (E2) or follicle stimulating hormone (FSH).
In other words, 40+ works indirectly, assisting your own body to balance your hormones naturally.

Isn’t that both clever and fantastic?
To sum up, 40+ works indirectly, without the risks of direct estrogen boosting. And what’s more, it’s been scientifically tested.
I hope I’ve helped you in understanding 40+. I invite you to try it for yourself today, risk-free. See if you become a believer like the rest of us at MenoMe.
