Get To Know the Women of MenoMe®: Quirks, Confessions + Must-Haves

leigh-kite-managing-director-co-founder-menome

Welcome to the Get to Know the Women of MenoMe® series. We’ll introduce you to one of the women behind the business each month. Think of it as your backstage pass to the real people who pack your parcels, answer your questions, and road-test the supplements (tough gig, right?).

Expect must-haves, quirks, wisdom, and maybe even a confession or two. Because peri: menopause is real life – but real life should come with a smile. 💙

Meet Leigh Kite - Co-Founder & Managing Director

1. Who are you and what do you do at MenoMe®?

I’m Leigh, one of the co-founders of MenoMe®. My official title is Managing Director. However, you’ll find it surprising that I actually pick and pack all your orders. Plus, I handle all your phone and admin queries. These include cries for help like: “I’ve run out of product and my sub isn’t shipping for another three weeks. But wait, ignore that – I’ve found another bottle in my drawer!” You know who you are. 😊

I also lead our new product development, and manage inventory, financial, legal, and regulatory functions. In addition, I oversee sales and marketing. Now that sounds more like a Managing Director, doesn’t it?!

2. Your MenoMe® Must-Haves

Definitely Perky Post® and Happy Go Tummy®. I always take them together. They’re like the dream team for me now I’m in post-menopause.

“Perky” (insider nickname) keeps me, well… perky! It keeps anxiety at bay. It also prevents the sleeplessness I first encountered in perimenopause. And it gives me peace of mind with added protection for bones, heart, and brain function.

“Happy” keeps me super regular. It eliminates all gut discomfort, which was a biggie for me. Together with “Perky”, it supports my mood and immunity. No ‘flu for me this year, despite it being all around!

3. A "Typical" Day (If There Is Such a Thing)

I like to start each day with liver detox herbal tea and a healthy breakfast. During the working week, I fit in exercise with a gym class or run.

At 10:30 am (cut-off time for overnight delivery), I ensure all MenoMe® orders are out the door. Then I spend the rest of the day focused on other MenoMe® tasks. On weekends, I usually go for a long run one day and take a rest day the next.

4. What I Love Most About Team MenoMe®

I love knowing our products and education help thousands of women feel like themselves during menopause. Plus I get to do this with talented, fun, and like-minded women.

5. One Fun or Surprising Fact About Me

I have an MA (Hons) in Japanese and spent over three years living and working in Japan. Latterly, I worked as a translator for a distributor and wholesaler of imported cosmetic and toiletry products. During that time, we worked six days a week with only one Saturday off each month. Try selling that work schedule to uni grads these days. 😊

6. Best Wisdom for Women Navigating Peri or Post-Menopause

Keep moving. Exercise is my number one wellbeing go-to.

Just 30 minutes daily releases endorphins (feel-good brain chemicals). These relieve stress, promote relaxation, and boost overall wellbeing.

7. Anything Else You'd Like to Share?

Ten years ago, when we started MenoMe®, menopause was taboo. Nobody wanted to talk about it. That didn’t serve women well.

Now, everybody is talking about it. It’s a complete sea-change. As the OG, we at MenoMe® like to think we led this transformation.

I love that!

Leigh 😊

Post-menopause

This is the time when menstruation is well and truly over, the ovaries have stopped producing high levels of sex hormones and for many ladies, perimenopause symptoms subside.

Estrogen has protective qualities and the diminished levels mean organs such as your brain, heart and bones become more vulnerable. It’s also a key lubricant so your lips may become drier, your joints less supple and your vagina might be drier. In addition, your thyroid, digestion, insulin, cortisol and weight may alter.

At this juncture, a woman might experience an increase in the signs of reduced estrogen but she should have a decrease of perimenopause symptoms. That said, some women will experience symptoms like hot flushes for years or even the rest of their lives.

Perimenopause

Peri = ‘near’

Most females begin to experience the symptoms of perimenopause in their mid-forties. Your progesterone levels decline from your mid-30s but it’s generally from around 40 that the rest of your sex hormones begin to follow suit.

Perimenopause is a different experience for every woman and some women may barely notice it. The first indicators are usually changes to the monthly cycle. This means that for some ladies, this can be accompanied by things like sore breasts, mood swings, weight gain around the belly, and fatigue as time goes on.

For those with symptoms it can be a challenging time physically, mentally and emotionally.

Importantly, perimenopause lasts – on average – four to 10 years. The transition is usually a gradual process and many women enter perimenopause without realising.
